Creative Release

An 8 week journey into exploring creative ways to unwind, switch off and let go

Are you a therapist, counsellor, coach or working in wellbeing, and…

  • Your work involves spending a lot of time holding an emotional space for your clients

  • You love the work you do, but it can leave you feeling weighed down, and you are keen to avoid burnout

  • You recognise that you need more space than you currently give yourself to express your own emotions

BUT … you find it really hard to take a step back, to reconnect with yourself and to prioritise your own self-care

This Creative Release course will help you to:

  • Recharge

Feel grounded, calm and re-energised - and much
    more connected
    to yourself

  • Release

Let go of the excess emotional weight that you are holding onto for your clients

  • Reflect

Really experience the deep impact that prioritising your own wellbeing for a few hours a week has on you

  • Connect

Feel less isolated and connect with a group of likeminded and creatively curious people

“What Jane does goes way beyond teaching art. She is able to help you to bring to light and express feelings you weren't aware of. Knowing the power of art, Jane generously shares that with others. I would highly recommend trying Jane's approach to art and self-discovery.”

Thalia Carr - Life Coach

This course is for you if …

You are a counsellor, therapist, coach, or work in any role within the field of wellbeing, where you are providing emotional support and space for your clients. You may be aware of the onset of overwhelm and keen to put things in place to stop this escalating.

Connecting to your creativity can provide a release and escape from everyday stressors, and can leave you feeling grounded, recharged, and much more resilient

I discovered art as a form of emotional release when I started studying counselling

My tutor at the time gently suggested to me that I start making art for my wellbeing.  And I am so grateful that she did!

I had been yearning to express myself creatively for a long time, as I found that words weren’t always quite enough to say what I needed to say.  But it felt really hard to access this part of myself - I felt a lot of resistance around this and incredibly disconnected from my creative self.

All the art classes I looked up were really traditional and felt pretty intimidating and formal to me - with no focus on emotional expression.

So instead I took a deep breath and had a go on my own. I got my paints out, shut myself away in the spare room, and experimented with letting go, making a mess, getting out of my own way, working through the fears and quietening down that negative inner voice that came up (and it was loud).  The book ‘The Artists Way’ by Julia Cameron was instrumental in this process, and I’m so glad I had her to ‘hold my hand’ through this journey.

And it has been a journey.  I’ve developed my own intuitive way of making art that helps me to express what I’m feeling and to release the things I need to let go of.

I now use creative expression as part of my self care toolkit - alongside journaling, yoga, dance, meditation, and my own therapy. And I love helping others to do the same.

“Working with Jane was really fun! I felt the process enabled me to be free, to experiment, and to connect with myself. I also felt emotion rising in me – happiness and joy to put paintbrush to paper, the beautiful colours of the paint, and the textures.”

Rachel Allen - Integrative Therapist

What we will cover on this creative journey

On this course we will be looking at ways to use art to connect with how you are feeling, and to express and release any strong emotions that you may be holding onto.

This course is experiential… I ask you to bring along your curiosity, and any blocks or fears you may have around creatively expressing yourself (we will be gently challenging these and putting them to the side).

I will introduce a different way of making being creative based on experimentation, play, and learning through doing.  We will explore being curious, tapping into your intuition, being in process and flow, and the liberating feeling of letting go of the outcome.

There will be plenty of space for reflection - for you to discover what you enjoy doing, what you’d love to do more of, and how the process and having space for yourself leaves you feeling.

And we will look at ways that you can incorporate creative expression into your life, and around your work with others, as a form of ongoing self-care.

You will leave this course with…

  • A set of creative tools which you can use to feel a sense of release, to reduce stress, to feel grounded and to reconnect with yourself

  • Lots of ideas for achievable ways that you can continue to incorporate creativity into your day

  • A greater ability to recognise what you need in the moment to feel better in yourself

  • An alternative way to express yourself - when you don’t want to use words, or words aren’t quite enough

  • And a greater capacity and resilience to do the work that you love doing with your clients

“These are no ordinary art classes – they are an experience! Jane created an atmosphere that allowed everyone to relax and be open to creating. It reminded me how important it is to take time out for yourself. The classes gave me the encouragement I needed to be creative and not worry about the end result. Thank you so much Jane for this incredible experience.”

FAQs

  • Unlike your usual Zoom meetings, during these sessions you will find that you are very focussed on what you are making for the majority of the time. Therefore it won’t feel nearly as knackering as having to engage with a regular 2 hour Zoom meeting!

  • I do offer the option to pay in instalments. Please contact me if you would prefer this option and I would be happy to discuss setting this up for you.

  • For this course you will need paints, pens, pencils and paper - and you can find the full materials list HERE.

  • I’ve put together some ready made art kits, which include all the materials you need for this course, and which you can buy at the same time as booking your place.

    Find out more HERE

  • You will need enough space to work and have your laptop with you too.  You don’t need to have your laptop angled so I can see your work - just so you can see the screen and I can see your lovely face.  (I’d recommend a laptop rather than your phone so that you can see the whole group and feel part of it).

You will need to be somewhere quiet where you won’t be disturbed / where people won’t be coming in and out and disturbing you.

And practically, you’ll need some newspaper or a plastic tablecloth - if you need to protect your work surface - and wet wipes / kitchen roll in case of spillage.

A cuppa / beverage / biscuits of your choice!

And of course your art materials.

I will open the Zoom link 5 minutes before the start of class to give you time to set up your workspaces together and arrive for the class.

  • Absolutely not - this course is suitable for absolute beginners.  It is a very different approach - going back to the basics of making art in a really free and expressive way, so no experience is necessary.  And if you have made art before, that is equally fine, and will really compliment anything you have done previously.

  • As well as the evening sessions, I will sometimes provide ideas for art exercises you might like to do between each class - although these are completely optional.

  • I only ever have a maximum of 8 people on my online courses, which means that I can give you all plenty of individual attention and support during the sessions.

  • For any sessions missed I will update you on what we covered / will cover, so that you have the option to do some of the creative exercises by yourself at home.

I would say that the first and last sessions are the most important ones to attend for the course.

  • This is entirely up to you and what you are comfortable doing.  I will ask at various points if anyone would like to share their work - by either holding it up or talking about it - but this is completely optional and pressure free.

I do ask that you have your Zoom video on at all times during the classes so I can see your lovely faces!

  • This course is specifically designed for people working or volunteering in wellbeing roles - and who regularly hold the emotional space for others.

This could include roles such as…

    • Counsellors / therapists

    • People working in the charity sector supporting others

    • SEND workers

    • GPs / medical professionals

    • Social workers

  • You don’t need to be fully qualified - you may already be working with clients, or even just about to start and keen to put some self-care support in place.

Wherever you are in your journey of supporting others, you are welcome in this space.

  • This course isn’t a replacement for therapeutic supervision, art therapy or group therapy. Although there will be some reflection, we won’t be delving into our feelings in a way that these other spaces provide.

I would say however that it nicely complements these and gives a space where you don’t have to express yourself through words or writing.

  • This course is not currently set up to provide CPD credits.

  • I’d say this course would be a great start in exploring your own creativity - and I’d really encourage you at this stage to put that first and really have this space for yourself.

And you may well find that some of the ways of making art we explore together in this course might be a nice, and natural addition to your practice supporting others.

  • I am able to offer a refund -minus an administration fee - up to 7 days before the start of the course. With less than 7 days notice I am unable to offer a refund.

Art boxes are non-refundable once they have been sent.

I am unable to offer partial refunds once you have started on the course.

If for any reason I am unable to run the course - I will give a minimum of 48 hours notice.

And if I need to cancel a session for any reason, I will run this on an alternative date.

  • I do indeed! I’m able to offer tailored workshops both in house or online.

Do get in touch with your requirements and I’d be happy to chat to you about what I might be able to offer.

  • Do sign up to my newsletter - using the link at the bottom of this page - and I’ll be in touch when I have new course dates planned.

  • No problem - please do drop me an email and I’d be happy to answer any questions you may have about the course.
