My Journey: How art became my sanctuary

Hi, I’m Jane. As a Highly Sensitive Person (HSP) and an artist, I know the deep longing to express yourself creatively, but feeling stuck in self-doubt or disconnected from that part of yourself.

My story starts with a struggle. I loved art in college but stopped creating for years. I felt a powerful urge to paint again, yet every time I tried, resistance and fear crept in — I questioned why I was doing it, and worried I wasn’t good enough, and that left me paralysed.

One day, someone gently suggested I try making art again. When I searched for classes, everything felt too rigid, formal, and intimidating — none of them spoke to what I truly needed: a space for emotional expression.

So, I decided to create my own space. I picked up a brush and just let myself play. I embraced making a mess, releasing expectations, and trusting my intuition. Sometimes it felt joyful and freeing; other times, it was deeply reflective or soothing.

This journey back to art became a lifeline — a way to process emotions, find calm, and reconnect with myself. Later, I discovered I was an HSP, and everything clicked. No wonder art had always felt like a sanctuary.

Now, I’m passionate about helping other HSPs and empaths experience the same freedom and joy in creativity. I’ve designed my courses to be gentle, intuitive, and emotionally supportive — a space where you can explore art without judgment or pressure, just like I needed when I was starting again.

“Working with Jane was really fun!  I felt the process enabled me to be free, to experiment & to connect with myself. I also felt emotion rising in me & happiness and joy to put paintbrush to paper, & to immerse myself in the beautiful colours & textures of the paint.”

Rachel Allen

“What Jane does goes way beyond teaching art.  She is able to help you to bring to light & express your feelings.  Knowing the power of art, Jane generously shares that with others. I would highly recommend trying Jane's approach to art & self-expression.”

    Painting supplies:

    • A set of acrylic paints

    • Paintbrushes and a palette knife

    • A paint palette

    • Printing Materials (for exploring printmaking techniques)

    Drawing & Sketching Materials:

    • Paper and a sketchbook

A variety of drawing materials to experiment with, including different types of pens, pencils, charcoal, and pastels

The only additional items you’ll need are:

    • A pair of scissors

    • A jam jar or plastic pot for water

    • Something to protect your table, such as newspaper or a plastic tablecloth

Everything else is included to ensure you can relax, create, and fully enjoy the course!

  • Absolutely! If you’d prefer to source your own materials, that’s no problem — you can find the full materials list for the course here.

If you already have some of the supplies, feel free to get in touch. I’m happy to discuss sending a tailored materials box or offering a reduced rate if you have what we’ll be using. 😊

  • To get the most out of the course, here’s what you’ll need:

    A Comfortable Workspace:

    • A table with enough space for your computer/laptop and your art materials. A kitchen or dining room table would be perfect for this.

    • Good lighting so you can see your work clearly.

    Protecting Your Space:

    • Cover your table with a plastic cloth or newspaper to avoid paint spills.

    • Wearing an old shirt or apron is optional, but helpful if you tend to get a little messy while creating!

That’s it! Just set up a cosy, distraction-free space where you can fully immerse yourself in your creativity.

  • We’ll meet on Zoom for each session, and I recommend using tile view so you can see everyone in the group.

I kindly ask that you keep your video on throughout the class so we can create a more connected and supportive space together — I love seeing your lovely faces!

Choose a quiet, distraction-free space where you won’t be interrupted. This helps us all feel more relaxed and keeps the space feeling safe and focused.

Pets are more than welcome (just watch out for curious cats and paint pallets!).

To minimize background noise, I may ask you to mute when you’re not speaking — especially for those of us who are particularly sensitive to sound.

You don’t need to have your camera positioned on your artwork, but from time to time, I may invite you to hold up your work to share — this is completely optional and pressure-free.

  • No worries! If you can’t make a session, I’ll send you a recording so you can catch up in your own time and won’t miss out on anything.

Let me know if you need any extra support — I want you to feel comfortable and enjoy the experience at your own pace.
